Dragon Well Tea (Longjing) was discovered around 230 AD. The well itself is two meters in diameter, and is famous for the tea plantation around it. Thus the tea leaves grown out from those plantations are names Dragon Well tea leaves. Of all the teas in China, Dragon Well tea is the best. Legend has it that the Emperor Qianlong passed by on an inspection, and named it as the ‘Imperial Tea’ after tasting the tea. Now, along with Meijiawu, Longjing Tea Village is one of the best spots to buy tea. There’s plenty to see at the village, and if you’re interested to buy some back home, you are sure to find many eager teashop/teahouse/restaurant owners promoting tea leaves picked from their own trees.
